Tony Reed is a 1985 graduate of Shikellamy HS and a 1990 graduate of Bloomsburg University. At Shikellamy, Reed wrestled for Hall of Fame head coach Phil Lockcuff and had an outstanding high school career. Reed finally found his spot on the Shikellamy line-up in 1984 after waiting behind state qualifiers John Supsic (1982 & 1983) and Paul Gemberling (1983). Reed made the most of his opportunity winning back-to-back state championships in 1984 and 1985. Reed finished his junior season with a 36-1 record and defeated Mt. Pleasant’s Joey Yancosky in the 105-pound state finals, 8-4. Reed moved up to 119 pounds the following season and posted a perfect 35-0 record and decked Cumberland Valley’s Keith Helfrick in 2:39 to claim his second PIAA Gold Medal. In the quarterfinals, Reed easily disposed of eventual PIAA state champion Scott Collins from Clearfield, 9-3. Reed finished his scholastic career with an impressive 108-7 won-loss record. Tony was voted the Pennsylvania team’s Outstanding Wrestler at the 1985 Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic after topping Iowa’s Mark Schwab at 119, 14-9. Reed took his wrestling talents to Bloomsburg University where he competed for Hall of Fame head coach Roger Sanders. Reed won the 1990 PSAC Championship at 134 pounds and was voted the tournament’s Outstandingg Wrestler. He was a three-time NCAA qualifier (1988-90) for the Huskies and finished his career won-loss record at 100-35-5.
