Greg is a 1985 graduate of Southern Columbia and a 1989 graduate of Penn State. Haladay was a two-time PIAA medalist, finishing 3rd at heavyweight in 1984 and runner-up in 1985. In 1984, Haladay dropped a 6-2 semi-final round decision to eventual state champion Dave Parrish from Susquenita before edging Mapletown’s Chris Homistek, 0-0, 2-0 in overtime to finish third. The following year, in 1985, Haladay entered the Class AA tournament with a 30-0 record and advanced to the heavyweight state finals, but was blanked by Newport’s Juan Sieber, 10-0. Haladay finished his high school career with a 69-5-2 record. At Penn State, Haladay was a three-time placewinner in the Eastern Wrestling League, finishing 3rd in 1987 and 2nd in 1989 and winning the 1988 title. Haladay was a three-time NCAA Tournament qualifier and earned a pair of NCAA All-American medals, placing 7th at in 1989 and 2nd in 1990, both at heavyweight. In 1990, Haladay dropped a controversial 3-2 decision to Clarion’s Kurt Angle in the NCAA heavyweight finals, 3-2. His career record for the Nittany Lions was 89-21-5.
