Chuck is a 1972 graduate of Reynolds High School and a 1977 graduate of Clarion University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. In 1972, Coryea capped off a perfect 26-0 season en route to the PIAA heavyweight state championship. Coryea was impressive in claiming the title, defeated Washington’s George Reihner in the semi-finals, 8-1, before blanking Lower Dauphin’s Fred Foreman in the championship finals, 8-0. In 1971, as a junior, Coryea dropped a 6-5 decision in the District 10 championship finals to eventual PIAA state champion Woody Thompson from Erie East. Coryea finished his scholastic career with a 61-3-1 won-loss record. Coryea was Clarion’s starting heavyweight in the magic years of 1973-76, when the Golden Eagles burst on the NCAA Division I Wrestling scene under coach Bob Bubb. A three-time NCAA D-I National Qualifier and an All-American in 1976 when he placed 4th at nationals. Chuck was a three-time PSAC Champion (1973, 1975, 1976) and 1976 EWL Champion and tournament Outstanding Wrestler. He was the team captain in 1975 and 1976 and helped Clarion to three PSAC team titles (1973, 1974, 1976) and the Eagles to a 4-year dual meet record of 69-11 during his career.
