Bob is a 1988 graduate of Warrior Run High School where he competed for Hall of Fame coach Wayne Smythe.  Simpson was a 4-time District 4 champion and a three-time Northeast regional champion.  He advanced to the PIAA state championship finals and finished second all four years.  In 1985, Simpson lost in the 95-pound champion finals to Ken Myers from Tyrone, 9-7.  In 1986 and 1987, the Defender standout lost to Wilkes-Barre Myers’ Tim Casey in the state finals by 10-2 and 6-0 scores at 105 and 112 respectively.  In his senior season in 1988, Simpson lost to Youngsville’s Dave Fehlman in the 119-pound title bout, 11-9. Simpson finished his career at Warrior Run with a 127-6 won-loss record. Following graduation from Warrior Run, Bob attended the University of Pittsburgh where he competed for Hall of Fame head coach Rande Stottlemyer and Hall of Fame assistant coach Stan Mousetis. In 1990, Simpson qualified at 118 pounds for the NCAA Championships in College Park, MD where he lost to Penn State’s Jeff Prescott in the second round (18-9) and dropped a 7-5 decision in the blood round of the consolations to North Carolina’s Doug Wyland.
